Prepare the Surface
Start with a solid base. For a new slab, compact the ground, set your forms, and pour the concrete (aim for a 3"–4" slump and 3/8"–1/2" aggregate). Grind the old slab to a CSP of 2–3, patch cracks with concrete crack filler, and apply a bonding agent like SureBond for a strong hold.
Check the Concrete’s Readiness
Timing is key. Touch the surface — if it’s pliable but doesn’t stick to your finger (about 1–8 mm imprint), it’s ready. This usually takes a few hours, depending on weather. Too early and the concrete will stick to the stamps and the installer will sink into the concrete; too late, and the concrete won’t take the pattern.
