Work Area Preparation and Product
Table to epoxy and containers should be stored and used at room temperature (73° F/23° C). Mixing containers should have straight sides and a flat bottom and made of wax-free paper, plastic or metal container. Do not use glass or foam containers due to high temperature potential (exotherm) of Epoxy. Mixing sticks should be flat and stiff with defined edges for scraping the sides and bottom of your mixing container.
Surface Preparation – Surface must be free of dust, oils or other contaminants as it will delaminate.
Sealing Porous Surfaces – unfinished wood surfaces, stone, marble, concrete, etc. should be sealed with a thin layer of Table Top Epoxy.
— Stir or shake Part A and Part B thoroughly before dispensing.
— Accurately pour 1A:1B resin and hardener by volume into a plastic, metal or wax-free mixing container.
Mixing — Mix using a flat edge mixing stick for 2 minutes. Scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing container with the mixing stick several times. Pour epoxy mix into a new, clean mixing container and mix again for 2 minutes. If using a drill mixer, use a variable speed mixer set to low rpm and mix for 2 minutes. Creating a vortex will introduce air. Follow with hand mixing for 2 minutes. A large mass concentration of epoxy will reduce pot life and may become too hot to handle. If concentrated mass of epoxy begins to get very hot, move outside to open air. To extend working time, reduce mass by pouring mixture into a flat baking pan and pour onto bar top from there. DO NOT allow mixture to sit or mix any longer than 8-10 minutes to prevent overheat and material hardening. Use a new tub or container every time If you are mixing multiple batches of epoxy.
Pouring Table Top Epoxy to Flat Surfaces
Base Coat: After mixing, pour a thin stream along the entire length of the surface. Do not exceed 1/16" (1.6 mm) for this layer. Your goal is to obtain an even coating. Let the Table Top Epoxy cure for 4 hours if another layer is required. Note: do not exceed ¼" (6.4 mm) thickness per pour.
Table Top Coat — Most tabletops, bar tops and other flat surfaces require 2–3 layers of Epoxy with a 4-hour cure time in between layers. You can apply as many ⅛" (3.22mm) layers as needed. For coating bar tops, a minimum thickness of ⅛" (3.2 mm) or two layers is recommended.
Encapsulate 3-D objects
If greater thicknesses are desired to encapsulate 2-D or 3-D objects, pour in layers of ¼" (6.4 mm) with 4 hours minimum between layers. Non-Porous Surfaces do not require a sealing coat. Mix and pour Table top Epoxy as directed to ¼" (6.4 mm) thickness. Look for bubbles and lightly pass propane torch over surface to dissipate. Let cure for 4 hours.
Metallic epoxy effect and colors — You can add Metallic Epoxy Fillers. Pre-mix Metallic Epoxy Filler into Table Top Epoxy Part A thoroughly (2-3 minutes recommended), let it stay for 10-15 min and then add Part B, mix it for 3 minutes, pour to the table top surface. Use paint brush to create metallic design on table top surface, remove an air pockets from the table top with propane torch. Repeat the process in 20-30 minutes if needed.
Estimating Coverage — Poured at ⅛" (3.22mm) - 16 ft2 / 1.48 m2, Poured at ¼" (6.4mm) - 8 ft2 / 0.74 m2.
If too much time passes (72 hours or more) between applying layers of Table top Epoxy, lightly sand cured epoxy surface with 220 grit sand paper and wipe clean with denatured alcohol before mixing and applying new Table top Epoxy.
After applying your final coat, the product should be kept in a clean, dust-free environment at a minimum of 75-80° F degrees. The product takes approximately 12-14 hours to dry to the touch. However, the product should not be put into any type of use for at least 3 days which will allow it to achieve sufficient hardness to resist scratching. At temperatures below 75 F, the product will take longer to cure and might not cure to a complete hardness.
